Tag 107

(WTVM)- We're pleased to report
five of the pets we showcased last week were adopted or placed in rescue
groups. Three cats are still available, and it's urgent they find a home soon.

Here's a look at this week's pets that are in need of your help:

Tag 107 is a female
adult brown Labrador mix. This sweet girl would love to go home with you!

Tag 222 is an adult male
grey cat. He's already neutered and will be the perfect addition to any family.

Alabama celebrates Prevention Week

(WTVM)- In a typical month, approximately 5.3 million Americans use a prescription pain reliever for non-medical reasons.

This is the type of statistic people around the nation, including the state of Alabama, are trying to bring awareness to during May's Prevention Week.

"Approximately one out of ten people are treated for some kind of emotional or mental illness each year so it's very important that people look how they are living their lives," explains Deborah Owen, Director of the Department of Psychiatric Medicine at the East Alabama Medical Center.

How to make sure your child is safe & secure in their car seat

(WTVM)- In light of the accident that claimed the life of a 15-month-old Columbus boy, we want to make sure
parents know how to properly secure a child in a car seat.

Car accident injuries are
the leading cause of death among children in the United States.

Child safety seats reduce the
risk of death in cars by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers
ages 1 to-4 years old.

Driver license designation soon to be available to veterans

This is what a permanent license would look like.

(WTVM)- Alabama veterans may have the option beginning May 1 of displaying proof of military service on their driver licenses.

Rep. Marcel Black, D-Tuscumbia, introduced the Veteran's Driver License legislation, which Gov. Robert Bentley signed into law in May 2012.

"Now, our veterans may readily show their status to obtain any benefits, rebates and accommodations they richly deserve," said Black. "I am proud to have played a part, along with Sen. Marc Keahey (D-Grove Hill), in making this happen."

Winn Dixie recalling apple juice, may contain mold

(Phot source: consumeraffairs.com)

(WTVM)- You may want to check your fridge: Winn-Dixie is recalling all 64 fluid ounce Winn-Dixie Organic 100% Apple Juices.

The product is being recalled because it may have levels of "patulin" that exceeds FDA limits.

Patulin is a by-product of molds that grow in fruits and vegetables.

The possibility of serious health issues resulting from the mold is very remote but the product is still subject to voluntary recall.
